What is PennHip?
PennHip is a diagnostic tool created to help reduce the amount of Canine Hip Dysplasia. It involves taking a series of radiographs under anesthetic sedation and then using a custom distraction device to reveal the maximum amount of hip laxity. A full report is then generated and given to the client.
What can Canine Hip Dysplasia cause?
Canine Hip Dysplasia is the most commonly inherited orthopedic disease in dogs. It leads to hip arthritis causing pain, stiffness, and diminished quality of life . Unfortunately there is no medical or surgical cure. C.H.D. afflicts more than 50% of the dogs within some breeds. Clinically it affects large breed dogs more severely than smaller breed dogs.
What is the minimum age for this procedure?
The minimum age for your dog to be eligible for a PennHIP procedure is 16 weeks.
